About Ashtanga Yoga Cork
AYC teaches the Ashtanga yoga system in the tradition of K. Pattabhi Jois. Here you will learn a practice that will grow with you for the rest of your life.
Ashtanga is a practice with a focus on initiating the movements with the breath (vinyasa). The series of poses are eventually committed to memory. The practice then becomes a moving meditation.
A willingness to surrender and learn, a desire to transform and grow, and a sense of self-inquiry will provide the foundation for your practice.
The practitioners learn the method and are given the power to develop their own practice through specific guidance and keen attention to detail.
“Do your practice and all is coming.”
K.Pattabhi Jois
About Mysore Classes
Mysore style is the traditional method for learning Ashtanga Yoga. In these classes, a relationship is built with your teacher and energy is shared between yoga practitioners of different levels. Each student works at their own pace with assistance and hands-on adjustment from the teacher as and when necessary. It is almost like a private lesson.
The Ashtanga series is learned and committed to memory posture by posture. New postures are then added as and when the student is ready. No prior yoga experience is necessary. All you need is the willingness to grow and learn through the practice. It is best to be consistent so that the sequence comes naturally.
There are no specific start times for classes. When first starting to learn the Ashtanga yoga system, you will probably need to allow about 45 minutes, building up to about an hour and a half once a full series of postures is being practiced.
About Guided/Led Classes
In these classes, you will be guided through the Primary sequence from the very beginning with Surya Namaskar A and B. You will learn how to flow in the sequence and experience the important elements for the practice. The teacher will give additional instruction and hands on adjustments as necessary.
